Even when tickling isn't quite so barbaric, many people don't find it enjoyable. This may have to do with how your nerves perceive the sensation of tickling. Scientists discovered that tickling stimulates the nerves that signal pain. There are many reasons why someone might not like being tickled. Pain signals: Tickling stimulates nerves that signal pain, which can be uncomfortable. This pain signal can also trigger the fight-or-flight response. Loss of control: Tickling can overwhelm the nervous system, which can cause temporary paralysis and make someone feel like they've lost control of their body. Negative experiences: Someone might dislike being tickled if they had negative experiences with it in the past. Other factors: Other factors that can affect someone's response to tickling include: Sensitive reflexes: Anxiety: Involuntary physical response to laughter: Confusion about enjoyment or consent Emotional state. Attention level and Distraction.
