Why do we have hair under our arms?

The hair in this region sits over our sweat glands. The hair helps distribute these smells into the ether, so potential “mates” can sniff you out. Nature is cool. Armpit hair is a natural part of getting older. Many people tend to see armpit hair as they go through puberty. Hair in the underarms helps regulate body temperature and protects the skin. Keeping your armpit hair trimmed back or shaved can reduce body smell and help you to feel and smell fresher. Some ethnic groups aren't hairy at all and never get much in the way of body or pubic hair. Even if the rest of your family is laden with armpit hair, having none is not abnormal or a problem. As long as your period is happening, your hormones have matured and that's all that matters from a long-term standpoint.
