Vine shut down because it was unable to monetize and retain creators. Its parent company, Twitter, was facing its own financial and leadership challenges, leaving Vine with less support to compete effectively in the evolving social media landscape. Despite Vine's meteoric rise and impact- cracks began to show in 2015. As new competitors emerged, Vine refused to evolve beyond its core six-second looping video format. Vine struggled to create causing users to leave for other apps. Vine's parent company Twitter shut down Vine in January of 2017. While Vine failed to keep up with its competitors' new features, TikTok's roster of sound effects, songs, filters, and interaction tools for new creative opportunities for its users. TikTok has done what Vine didn't and continued to evolve while maintaining its loyal user base.
