We don't have too many people living in Saint Charles. I would say because not much to do.

I am thinking about moving to Virginia because I am tired of the city life. My question is what is it like to live in the Appalachian mountains?

Some 15,000 years ago, Indigenous Peoples—including the Cherokee, Haudenosaunee, Powhatan, and Shawnee—began living in the Appalachian Mountains and stewarding this landscape. Today, at least 35 million people call the region home, and millions more rely on its natural abundance for health, livelihoods, and recreation. During 2015-2024, the median family income in Appalachia was 93% of the U.S. median of $95,321. However, in 20 Appalachian counties – in metro areas – the median family income matched or exceeded the U.S. median. In another 53 counties, median income was at or above the median for families in the Appalachian Region. The Southern Appalachians are an outdoor paradise. From mountain biking to kayaking to fishing to hiking through the woods, there is something for everyone. In addition to Great Smoky Mountain National Park, there are several National Forests in the area, creating no limit to the outdoor activities available. Great place to live!
