The mythological depiction of cyclopses is far different than reality — and quite unlikely to ever exist. Ancient sources for the depiction of a cyclops — literally 'wheel-eyed' in Greek — are numerous. The Cyclops is a giant, one-eyed creature from Greek mythology that was often depicted as fierce and dangerous. The term "cyclops" literally means "wheel-eyed" in Greek. The Cyclops were said to have helped Zeus defeat the Titans and hindered Odysseus from returning home on time. After the restoration of the Multiverse, Cyclops was resurrected by the Phoenix Force as was Jean Grey with the latter as its host. But Cyclops didn't believe he should have been resurrected to which Jean agreed and she killed him. Apollo slew the one-eyed race of giants, the Cyclops because they had provided Zeus with the thunderbolts which killed his son, Aesculapius. The fresco (transferred to canvas) comes from a series painted in the Stanza.
